Environment Artist (Mid/Senior)


Playside Studios are seeking a highly-skilled 3D Environment Artist to join our team. In this role, the Artist will have to be a hardworking self-motivated team player who is able to work closely with the Lead Artist to create and be responsible for setting the bar for visual and production quality while fostering a fun and productive environment for coworkers.  This is an excellent opportunity to work and learn with a group of talented and proven developers who are passionate about making games.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create high and low-poly 3D objects and 3D environments.

  • Understanding of the project design documents to know the environments, objectives, atmospheres, story, and style of the project.

  • Help design, construct, document and implement pipeline procedures

  • Proactive in helping establish the artistic vision of the project.

  • Work on a technical level with all members of staff in all areas of expertise.

  • Working alongside the other Art team members in a professional manner. And providing thoughts on improvements to all projects studio-wide.

  • Implement feedback from Lead Artist and Art Director.

  • Liaise with Art Lead & producers within the scheduling phase of projects to ensure art implementation is within time/budget.

  • Providing mentorship and onboarding of junior members of the team.

  • To help in reinforcing great teamwork and amazing studio culture.

  • Work with Art Lead & Director to reinforce art style and to resolve stylistic questions.

  • Review progress of art team tasks and communicate potential issues to Art Lead and Producer.

  • Improve workflow and efficiency by sharing experience and skill, both verbally and through presentations and/or documentation.


Skills & Requirements


  • 3+ years of PC and Console production art experience in the gaming industry

  • UE4 Development experience with a minimum of one released title.

  • Friendly, helpful, and collaborative in a team-based environment.

  • Flexible in adapting to different art styles.

  • Exceptional knowledge of Autodesk Maya.

  • Advanced knowledge of both Photoshop and Substance Painter.

  • Create high-quality game-ready models and scenes with minimal direction and a high level of autonomy.

  • Technical understanding of current asset workflows, shaders and engine capabilities.

  • Create assets that work optimally within UE4s engine and platform constraints.

  • An excellent eye for detail, shapes, proportions, composition, colours, and lighting.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, and be able to both take critique and give feedback internally and externally in a professional manner

  • Ability to consistently resolve issues from a visual, production, and technical perspective


Desired Skills


  • An understanding of narrative world-building

  • Concept skills - Ability to visualize and concept artistic solutions.

  • Samples of work displaying clean High to Low poly bakes.

  • Skilled in Procedural pipeline tools (Substance Designer, Houdini)

  • Strong understanding of material definition and texturing workflows.

  • Passion for making and playing great games, with an awareness of current titles and industry trends.
