Senior Engineer (Unreal)

Who are Playside?

We are one of Australia's largest game development companies in Melbourne and we are looking for a super switched on software engineer to join our talented team in developing a game for PC and console platforms. We’re looking for an individual that has very strong graphics programming skills and is interested in joining our team to bring our games to the next level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, modify, implement, debug and optimise our graphics pipeline within the Unreal game engine.

  • Work collaboratively and communicate with game designers, artists, animation, and audio teams.

  • Develop tools and systems for our team to create great content for the game.

  • Assist with the development and deployment of the game on both PC and current generation consoles.

  • Contribute to the team’s design vision to build a fun and exciting game.


Skills Required

  • At least 3-4 years experience working with the Unreal engine source.

  • At least 2-3 years experience working with the Unreal engine rendering pipeline.

  • Strong graphics programming skills aligned with modern 3D graphics APIs (Vulkan, OpenGL, Direct3D, and/or console equivalents).

  • A deep understanding of Unreal engine’s rendering pipeline and how to modify and extend it.

  • Shipped at least 1-2 games on PC and or console.

  • Strong maths skills.

  • Passion for working within the graphics programming field.

  • Knowledge of CPU/GPU architecture.

  • Strong background in C/C++.

  • A very good understanding and usage of modern GPU/CPU performance analysis tools.

  • Great communication skills and enjoys working with peers from art, animation, and audio teams.

  • Creative, motivated, focused, and passionate about making games.

  • A tertiary degree or an equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field.

  • The ability to prioritise and work on multiple tasks simultaneously and manage competing priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently to get the job done without day-to-day direction.

  • Think on their feet and act quickly.

  • Have a can-do with the ability to turn a negative into a positive, no problem is too great.


Bonus Skills

  • Worked and developed large crowd simulation.

  • Strong understanding of particle systems and visual effects.

  • Understanding of service-oriented approaches for solving large scale simulations.

  • Good understanding of multithreading and how to write code for such systems.

  • Developing mobile game applications in C# within the Unity3D engine

  • Collaboration and communicate with game designers / artists on implementing features

  • Accurate timeline estimation and task breakdowns


Required Skills:


  • 2+ years of professional experience in games programming

  • Experience with the Unity3D game engine

  • C#/C++ Programming

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Self motivation / Ability to work autonomously

  • Experience with IOS / Android build pipelines

  • Completion or collaboration of multiple game titles


Desired Skills:
