TECHNICAL AUDIO DESIGNER

Overview

PlaySide Studios, one of Australia's largest game development companies, is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Technical Audio Designer to join our versatile Audio team. As a Technical Audio Designer, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects and contribute to the production of high-quality audio assets across various game genres and platforms.  


Your primary responsibility will be to create, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot complex audio systems for our games whilst bridging the gap between audio design and audio programming. The ideal candidate excels in both creative and technical challenges, possesses a deep understanding of systems and workflows, and effectively communicates with both creative and technically oriented individuals. Please note that this role does not involve music composition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the creation of exceptional audio content to create fun and engaging player experiences.

  • Design, implement, and provide support for complex interactive audio systems for multiple PlaySide projects across a variety of engines and middleware.

  • Assist in developing in-house tools and custom scripts to improve production pipeline efficiency and adherence to required data and asset specifications.

  • Work closely with the Audio Designers, Audio Lead, Composers, and other key stakeholders from multiple disciplines to develop audio systems based on creative vision and gameplay requirements.

  • Performance profiling, bug fixing, and quality assurance of live projects in both pre and post release environments. 

  • Define and implement best practices for technical audio workflows and systems.

  • Troubleshoot and debug audio tools, systems, and functionality.

  • Offer technical assistance to sound designers across multiple projects.

What You Bring To The Role

  • Experience of audio development in the games industry. 

  • Experience with audio integration in modern game engines.

  • Highly proficient with industry-standard DAWs (Reaper) and plug-ins.

  • Proficient in Wwise, FMOD, and Unreal audio solutions.

  • Experience with Unity. 

  • Proficiency in high-level programming languages (e.g. Python, Lua, C#)

  • Good knowledge of visual scripting systems (e.g. Unreal blueprints).

  • Strong demo reel showcasing technical audio design.

  • Proven track record of shipped titles. 

  • Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of audio editing, asset generation, processing and mixing.

  • Technical curiosity and creative thinking.

  • Experience with ReaScript and Extensions.

  • Passion for creative sound design and video games.

Bonus Points!

  • Music theory and / or knowledge of music composition practices.

  • Experience with AR / MR / VR mediums and platforms. 

  • Proficiency in C++.
