

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
Overview
Based in Melbourne, we are one of Australia's largest game development companies. We’ve made some epic titles such as Age of Darkness! We are looking for a Technical Director to Lead our top tier Engineering team.
We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Director to join our talented team in developing a game for PC, VR, Mobile and Console platforms. The Technical Director is responsible for the entire engineering department of the studio and works alongside the General Managers & other Directors in setting the technical excellence bar for the studio. We’re looking for an individual that has Engineering Leadership skills and will help bring our games to the next level by joining a team that holds the player’s experience at the core of its mission.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the development plan, schedule, and process for multiple simultaneous projects, including tasks, resources, quality, time, priorities, and costs;

Establish engineering best practices that allow the team to achieve the assigned projects;

Identify process improvement programs to gain efficiencies, cost or quality that impact multiple teams;

Work with development teams and different partners (partner teams, product teams, users, etc) to refine requirements for development;

Collaborate and manage partnerships with internal technical partners;

Share knowledge internally. Apply lessons learned by other teams and align with the broader PlaySide’s technology portfolio;

Be the single contact for discipline at the project level, including working with essential external partners, i.e. Studio Tech and Tools, Ops, Platform teams;

Manage people, Recruitment and career development for leads, ensuring there is craft leadership for the wider engineering team;
What You Bring To The Role
-
The ideal applicant will have experience working in a Technical Director or Senior/Lead Programmer role and will have shipped multiple games across multiple platforms

Experience in software development/engineering management positions;

Demonstrated proficiency in and knowledge of C/C++, data structures, performance, and multi-threaded programming techniques

Thorough knowledge of software design practices including modular architecture, event-driven architecture, software design patterns and object-oriented design

You have gathered and refined use cases and turned them into requirements and designs;

Experience with Agile/Scrum and knowing how to connect between the iterative-process and high-level programs and milestones;

Broad knowledge of and experience with Console, PC, VR and Mobile game development;
Bonus Points

An appreciation and basic understanding for the other disciplines, particularly game design.

Experience working on projects involving multiple internal and external partners, and with established franchises where close collaboration with publishing owners is required.
